About Us
Oatley Public School is situated in the picturesque village of Oatley, nestled between the Georges River and the village of Mortdale. The school consists of 337 children in 13 classes. We provide an accepting, caring environment where all achievements are celebrated. A broad, but balanced curriculum which challenges all to achieve excellence at their own level and beyond in relationships, performing arts, fitness and academic pursuits is evident. Our school encourages responsibility for self and life-long learning as contributing members of our society.
The school offers a comprehensive curriculum supplemented by a range of extra activities. There are three bands, Training, Intermediate and Concert, providing musical enrichment to those talented in music. We also have a junior and a senior choir which practise each week. Dance classes are held in the hall. Each of these musical groups have opportunities throughout the year to perform both at school and in the community. Debating and Public Speaking are a feature of the school. All students take a talk topic, prepare a talk and deliver it to a group. A Public Speaking Night is programmed each year for selected children K-6 to present their talks to the community.
Parents help to govern the school through the School Council which sets policy and direction. The School P&C co-ordinates fund-raising, the uniform shops and the canteen. Our parents are a wonderful support in the school in reading, maths, technology lessons, music classes, on the band committee, running the uniform and second hand uniform shops and raising money through a variety of fund-raising activities. The school canteen is run three days a week through parents volunteering their time to operate this facility. Before and After School Care and Vacation Care are available on campus and run by two qualified child carers.
We are continually trying to upgrade the school environment to make it an attractive and welcoming place for all who enter. Thanks to some of our parents and grandparents, the gardens and grounds are looking a picture.
